LIVE EDGE SLABS

We carry more than 2,000 Live Edge Slabs in varying sizes and species.

Our selection is ethically sourced and was rescued from becoming firewood or mulch. We believe all wood deserves a second purpose. To guarantee the highest quality, our slabs go through a 2 to 3 year drying process and are then flattened to perfection before being put into our inventory. Regardless of whether you are looking for raw or finished slabs, we will be your guide in selecting the perfect pieces for your custom project.

Black Locust Decking

DECKING

Our decking utilizes the durable, sustainable, and ethically sourced Black Locust lumber. We sell the lumber raw or molded to a thickness of 1 inch, with options of tongue and groove, or molded with 4 rounded corners.

END-GRAIN FLOORING

We specialize in end-grain reclaimed white oak block flooring. Our indoor end-grain block flooring is a great option for those high-traffic areas, such as large entranceways of businesses or kitchen areas.

Our white oak blocks are the floor of the Comcast Center in Philadelphia, PA, as well as in Stella McCartney stores worldwide

BLACK LOCUST LUMBER

We paved our way to success by reviving history with our end-grain pavers crafted from Black Locust wood for roads and streets. Today, landmarks like Camac Street in Philadelphia, Wooden Alley in Chicago, and several sites in Cleveland, Ohio, proudly display these pavers as living testaments to our past. Our craftsmanship is evident in every detail — we sourced and meticulously processed over 30,000 pavers, with each piece carefully selected and cut to precision. Every project enriches our expertise, and now we proudly offer our reclaimed Black Locust lumber as an exceptional option for your next outdoor deck, patio, or porch decking.

Beyond the narrative, it's worth noting that these reclaimed materials not only tell a unique story, but also embody a commitment to sustainability — a value increasingly recognized by modern designers and planners. This nuanced blend of heritage and eco-consciousness can transform any outdoor project into a space that resonates with both beauty and environmental responsibility.

WE KILN AND CNC FLATTEN

At Farrell’s Custom Woodworking, we offer in-house kiln drying done to industry standards — an essential but often overlooked step in preparing quality lumber.

Kiln Drying Process

KILN DRYING

KILN DRYING
DONE RIGHT

The process starts with properly cutting the wood and stacking it with spacers, or “stickering,” to allow air to circulate. Before kiln drying, wood must first air dry to about 25% moisture — a process that can take 6 months to a year for 1-inch thick lumber, and even longer for thicker cuts, depending on the species.

Rushing or skipping proper drying can cause serious problems down the line. Such as, case hardening, honeycombing, warping, cracks, bowing, and cupping.

Once air-dried, the lumber spends about three weeks in the kiln, where it’s carefully brought down to 8% moisture — this is the ideal level for wood to reach natural balance in homes and businesses.

When it’s done right — and we make sure it is — you get stronger, more stable, longer-lasting wood for every project.

CNC FLATTENING

TAKE FLATTENING TO THE NEXT LEVEL

We offer large-format Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Flattening. For us, precision is key to making sure your lumber and our lumber is completely flat through and through to avoid bowing and to give an easier working experience.
